Ties: Did you know?

Rep or Repp ties are quality ties made generally from silk. The silk is woven to produce tight diagonal ribs that make for deep and vibrant colors. The term “Rep” evolved from “ribbed” not “reputation” or “repetition.”

Other tie terms:

• Foulard - small repeated pattern
• Club - small insignias and emblems
• Polka dot - the smaller the dot, the more elegant
• Paisley - swirled shape (originally taken from Indian prints)
• Geometric patterns
• Floral - wear with caution in the workplace!

Gentlemen - By traditional standards, ties should be

• Approximately the same width as your single-breasted lapel
• The current standard is 3.5 inches wide.
• The end of your tie should come to bottom of your waistband or belt buck - at the very least, it need to be touching your belt buckle or it looks way too short
